Global Underwear Sales Down

Factoid

The official numbers are now out. The global sales of underwear topped out at 29 billion dollars for 2009. That figure represents a 3% decline in sales from 2008. Even underwear sales have been affected by the worldwide recession. Still, that seems to me like an awful lot of money on underwear. But when you break it down it only comes out to approximately five bucks per person on the planet for underwear. That doesn't seem like much, of course there are a lot of people who don't wear underwear.

The countries with the largest increase in underwear sales were Germany and Austria while the country with the largest decrease in underwear sales was France. Make of that what you will. In America sales of women's underwear decreased significantly while sales of men's underwear increased a whopping 11%.

And now you know.
