Crazy Horse, Fireworks, & an Earthquake

An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter Scale occurred this morning near Schuyler in eastern Nebraska. It occured at 7:02 this morning and as yet there have been no reports of injuries or damage.

In other Nebraska news, Governor Dave Heineman approved last week the naming of a stretch of U.S. Highway 20 from Hay Springs to Fort Robinson State Park as Crazy Horse Memorial Highway. The designation came about through the efforts of a group of Chadron residents. The segment of Highway 20 is not the only highway named as a memorial to Crazy Horse. U.S. Highway 16/385 between Custer, S.D., and Hill City, S.D., received the same designation in 2009.

Also two million dollars in state grant money has been awarded to Aurora, Kearney, and South Sioux City to be used to help attract high-tech industries.

Lexingtion and McCook, Nebraska recently passed measures allowing for New Year's firework sales and now Scottsbluff has joined the trend. City councils of Kearney and Gering, however, have rejected similar proposals,
