Renewable Energy
Antelope and Boone counties will likely be home to 133 wind turbines. Chicago-based Invenergy Wind Development, LLC was granted the state's first conditional approval from the Nebraska Power Review Board as a certified renewable export facility, authorized under LB 1048 to produce wind energy for sale outside the state. LB 1048 was enacted in the 2010 session.
The Invenergy project, Prairie Breeze Wind Energy Center, will produce 200 megawatts on land surrounding the communities of Elgin and Neligh. The $448 million project will consist of turbines covering about 60 square miles, and is expected to bring millions of dollars of revenue to Nebraska residents in landowner royalties, property taxes, permanent operations and maintenance positions after the project is completed and temporary construction jobs during the development phase, according to developers.
