Neb. Bill Would Ban Toys in Fast-food Kids' Meals

Health
The city of San Francisco recently passed a law prohibiting toys in fastfood meals and now Nebraska State Senator Bill Avery of Lincoln has introduced a similar bill to the Nebraska legislature. The bill would prohibit toys in children's meals that contain 500 or more calories (400 for breakfast) and have more than 640 milligrams of sodium. Senator Avery said the bill is a measure to combat the epidemic of childhood obesity and the medical problems and costs associated with that. Not surprisingly, the bill is being met with strong resistance from the fast-food industry which spends hundreds of millions of dollars each year advertising fattening unhealthy food directly to children.
